Frequently asked questions
The Big Question: Do shower filters actually work?
The Big Question: Do shower filters actually work?
Heck yes, they work. A quality shower filter (like ours) excels at removing heavy metals and chlorine, which is the main culprit behind skin issues, brittle hair, and that weird chemical smell in your shower.
My water is already filtered by the city. Why do I need this?
My water is already filtered by the city. Why do I need this?
City water treatment adds chlorine to kill bacteria, and that chlorine stays in your water when it reaches your home. It's done its job by the time it gets to you, but it's still hanging around, drying out your skin and hair. Our filter removes what you don't need anymore.
How does Vitamin C in the filter help?
How does Vitamin C in the filter help?
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) reacts with chlorine instantly and neutralizes it into harmless stuff your body doesn't care about.
Why it's awesome:
- Kills over 90% of chlorine super fast
- Actually removes chloramine (the thing other filters can't touch)
- Works BETTER in hot water while other filters get weaker
- By removing chlorine, you preserve your skin's natural oils and pH balance
- Less dryness, irritation, and skin aging from oxidative stress
- Reduced strain on your immune system and breathing issues since you're not absorbing/inhaling chlorine byproducts
What is KDF-55 media, and why is it important?
What is KDF-55 media, and why is it important?
KDF-55 stands for Kinetic Degradation Fluxion β it's a high-purity copper-zinc alloy developed in the 1980s. That's basically the gold standard for shower filters.
How it works:
KDF-55 uses a redox (reduction-oxidation) chemical reaction where electrons transfer between molecules. This process converts chlorine into harmless, non-toxic chloride - the same stuff naturally in your body.
Why it's the GOAT:
- Removes up to 98% of chlorine in home systems (90% in shower filters due to high flow rate)
- Gets MORE effective in hot water, while carbon filters lose power
- Works instantly - perfect for fast-flowing shower water
- Prevents bacteria, mold, and algae growth inside the filter
- Also removes heavy metals like lead, mercury, and chromium
The science is legit:
KDF-55 is certified by NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) and recognized by the EPA as a "pesticidal device" that kills bacteria - not marketing BS.
Bottom line: If a shower filter doesn't have KDF-55, it's probably not worth buying. This is the media that actually works in hot, fast-moving shower water.
Will this thing kill my water pressure?
Will this thing kill my water pressure?
Nope. Quality shower filters are designed to maintain water flow and won't reduce your water pressure. If anything goes wrong with your pressure, it's usually a sign your filter needs replacing (more on that below).
Is installation a nightmare? Do I need a plumber?
Is installation a nightmare? Do I need a plumber?
Zero nightmare energy here. Most shower filters install in about 5 minutes with no tools required - just hand-tighten between your shower arm and shower head. If you can screw on a bottle cap, you can install this.

How often do I need to replace the filter?
How often do I need to replace the filter?
Most shower filters need replacement every 3-4 months depending on your water quality and usage. We recommend every 3 months for optimal performance.
Signs it's time to swap:
- Water pressure drops
- That chlorine smell is back
- Your skin and hair feel different (not in a good way)
- It's been 4+ months (seriously, just change it)

What's the ongoing cost?

Do I need the swivel ball adapter?
Do I need the swivel ball adapter?
Only if your shower setup is awkward.
You need it if:
- Your shower arm is too close to the wall (less than 32mm/1.25" of space)
- The filter + shower head combo is too long and hits the wall
- You want to adjust the angle of your shower spray
- Your shower arm points at a weird angle
You DON'T need it if:
- You have standard shower connections with enough clearance
- Your filter installs fine without it
- Everything lines up perfectly already
What it does:
Adds 18-30Β° of adjustability and extends your shower head away from the wall, so you can angle the spray where you want it.
Bottom line: Most people don't need it. But if you're tight on space or your shower spray hits the back wall instead of you, grab one here. It's a cheap fix for awkward shower setups.

Is filtered shower water safe for children and pets?
Is filtered shower water safe for children and pets?
Absolutely - in fact, it's BETTER for them.
Babies and young children have especially sensitive skin that's more vulnerable to chemicals in unfiltered water. Filtered water is particularly important for children with conditions like eczema or asthma, as it can reduce irritation and improve overall comfort.
